DesignLab Team project to create a working prototype using PowerPoint that “teaches” the learner ways and attitudes to make better financial decisions.
Our Content area focuses on goal-setting and planning. A good plan needs understanding, so we provide information on costs and benefits. We also provide an invitation and schema for making that plan with a feedback loop that returns to the plan as new understanding is achieved.
We chose to build the “Own your own House” Module, and constructed the infrastructure for navigating to the other Modules as well as the graphic standard “look and feel” that will be adhered to in the other modules.
The primary objective is to create a plan. This is accomplished through the 20-years-at-a-glance activity. The plan is flexible and can evolve as additional information is presented. The future you is an individual process and is not evaluated per se, however the act of planning is the objective goal of this module. The sharing tool encourages the Marine to forward a copy to their PFM.
We assume that the project will be developed as a tablet or mobile phone app. Therefore some of the features are not available as a powerpoint presentation. Navigation also uses tablet / mobile phone conventions. There are arrows at the top left for forward and backward, and a drop-down at the top right.
Dual coding using playful analogies and iconography to represent the content.
Illustrative examples are given and feedback is provided through the use of “wow meter” and dollar accumulators.
Content is chunked and presented as a visual outline.
